Seen With Fred in Lounge - Sunday, March 1, 1964

Gee, I can't win! I don't have my book read (100 pages yet to go) for which the outline of the paper is due tomorrow. I was sitting in the lounge with Fred at 10:15 (after having said at 9:50 that I had that to do and probably should go do it) when who should walk in but Mr. Reynolds with some papers for Cheryl to grade. I could have died. That means my paper`better be good and that I better get on the stick. Fred went to Forum tonight and Evelyn and I went to see the movie, "Hiroshima, Mon Amour." This was a beautiful day. Fred brought his book, O Ye Jigs and Juleps, for me to read. It's so cute.

Went to Play, "The Apparitions" - Saturday, February 29, 1964

We went to the play, "The Apparitions," tonight. It was put on as part of the Latin American series. The scenery was excellent, and it was a good play. Karen and I worked on the yearbook this morning. We finally created our own cover. We finished our first layout. I can't remember what she had said she would do when that day came. I read my book for geography this afternoon. I wrote to Mr. Morris about working at the Journal office again this summer. It was windy like "in like a lion," but I guess the wind didn't know it was February 29 and not March 1.

Geography Test Was Better Than Its Score - Friday, February 28, 1964

Fred and I went to the Parchie Playboy Club tonight. It was okay (at least we had our own good time) but the atmosphere was sort of heavy and people weren't very receptive to the program. Tonight at supper some of the guys were "drunk" and acting accordingly - it was so disgusting. Not a single person came up to see the doctor tonight so he didn't even come out after calling to see if anyone wanted to see him. I only got a 61 on my geography test, but the comment, "This is truly a better paper than the score indicates. It is mostly B quality. Please obtain that next time." I got 35 out of 40 on the children's lit test and 81 on the algebra test.

Worked on Yearbook All Afternoon - Thursday, February 27, 1964

I worked on the yearbook all afternoon. I really put in my six hours this week, but then I guess it's about time. I finished the Judicial Council page and am about halfway through with the Harvest Festival king and queen pages. We just may have a yearbook. I didn't do as well as I should have on the algebra test. The education test was okay. The LLCs actually beat Fred's team! I once jokingly said I bet they would! ACC Number 1 team just hasn't been up to par. Shirley is so cute - she just had to read Evelyn, Jane and me "gems" from the book she is reading for geography.

Treats for Evelyn's Birthday - Wednesday, February 26, 1964

Well, I've just finished writing my letter home and making a carbon copy of it for Phyl as part of today's full schedule. I got up at 6:00 and at 6:30 mixed the cake except for the eggs, and Fred brought them at 7:30. I finished it and it baked while we went to breakfast. I didn't have a first hour class, so I frosted it then. Jim and I and Brisches were Evelyn's guests at Gattons for supper. I went with Fred to the Latin American concert. Then we came back up here for cake, pop and ice cream. I fixed sundaes and pop for Evelyn's and Ellen's birthdays during the house meeting. Carol Greene had Ellen's name and due to a mix up I took Evelyn's.

Cassius Clay is Boxing Champion - Tuesday, February 25, 1964

Cassius Clay won the world heavyweight boxing championship over Sonny Liston tonight. It makes very little difference to me, but it was the talk of the campus. Fred was among those who favored Clay (odds were 7 to 1 against him). Karen and I had sort of an emergency yearbook session from 7:00 to 9:00 tonight. It seems the Board of Student Publications wants to see some of our work on Friday. I made a trip to Parkville this afternoon. I had to get a cake mix and frosting mix that Jim wants me to fix for Evelyn's birthday. I have some tight scheduling planned for tomorrow but maybe I'll manage.

Am Reading Facing Mt. Kenya - Monday, February 24, 1964

Evelyn went home tonight. She was sick yesterday with a sore throat and still wasn't feeling too well. Fred came up tonight. I don't know what to decide to do - I suppose I should at least let him know I think it would be best to break up - but when? When did I first really feel this way? Could it be that all along I've had sort of what might be called a "crush" on Fred? We haven't gotten our algebra tests back yet and Mr. Reynolds has had our geography tests for two weeks. I'm enjoying my outside reading book, Facing Mt. Kenya, that Karanja loaned to me. I'll have to read 60 pages a day to finish it by Friday. The children's lit test wasn't bad.
