King and Queen Assembly was Enjoyable - Thursday, October 8, 1964

The king and queen assembly went very nicely and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We really have a good group of candidates: Leslie Innes, Flo Ito, Rosemary Kellner, Barb Page, Kathy Rickard, and Nancy Rohlfing; Jim Hunter, Dave Mogle, Glenn Petrie, Gary Sorrell, Roger Rikkola, and Hans Van Naerssen. It was hard to vote and will be equally hard to predict the finalists. Stephens lounge is finally beginning to take shape with our chair covered and couch from Brisch's matching - also Jean's chair. Evelyn and I went to school in the afternoon since we were here for the assembly this morning.

Candidates' Activities and Hometowns Are on a Stencil - Wednesday, October 7, 1964

I just drew my self-portrait for art. I think I look better than I drew myself...but!?! I got the ballot for the king and queen candidates typed tonight on a long stencil, activities and hometowns included. Today I've had to deal with a lot of petty little problems such as dates for candidates, their other obligations and so forth. On the way back from school we stopped to look at Brisch's couch at Gattons. I guess we'll use that along with a chair Jean Oxborrow is letting us have. I hope the fact that the folks are coming for Harvest Festival can serve as my reason for not writing home this week.

Three Events to be Responsible for This Weekend - Tuesday, October 6, 1964

Tonight I gave Dee a birthday party (chips and dip) since she wasn't in Stephens when the rest of us drew names. I typed up some worksheets for my Indian unit and colored two "pictures." I can't believe that I can have these things to be responsible for this weekend: king and queen candidates, education department open house, and Stephens lounge. I finally got Mr. Chronister's letters finished for him. Evelyn and I went down to Parkville after education seminar (Dr. Pai wasn't there) to order Harvest Festival flowers.

Typed Candidates' Activities, Wrote Letters to Each - Monday, October 5, 1964

This is going to be a crazily busy week. Tonight I typed up the activities for the twelve candidates and also wrote letters to each one. I have only been able to tell about half of them that they are candidates - it's hard to catch them alone. Mr. Chronister is about to run me ragged with everything he would like me to do. We are still calling furniture companies and doing everything we can to get lounge furniture by Saturday. Thankfully the student council meeting was short tonight. There must be a "method" to my "madness!"

Kay Has Decided She Can't be a Queen Candidate - Sunday, October 4, 1964

Evelyn and I took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and walked to Alfalfa Point and Falling Springs this afternoon. The leaves are gorgeous this year. This evening I went to the Sunday evening forum (having received a special request to be there) to discuss its purposes and accomplishments. I worked this evening on reading lesson plans but didn't get to my unit outline. I hope Miss Dyer doesn't care. Kay has decided she can't very well be a candidate, so we'll have to replace her.

Looked at Furniture for Lounge with Judy and Evelyn - Saturday, October 3, 1964

This morning Evelyn, Judy and I went in to Kansas City and looked at furniture possibilities for our lounge at the Salvation Army and two used furniture stores. Judy is going to talk to her "mother's boyfriend" who has leads to some furniture and compare results. I had a "time" driving all over KC with Evelyn and Judy directing me! After we let Judy out at her house, Evelyn and I went to see Margaret and Ellen (Hans wasn't home) where they live now off The Paseo and to pick up a dress for Evelyn to wear next weekend. I then left her in NKC. The LLCs actually beat the ACCs 13-12 in softball.

Committed to Being a "Sophist" in Philosophy - Friday, October 2 1964

I went to the show, "Seven Days in May," with Bob McAnally. "For the record," that means August (of all months!) was the only month in the last year (since November) in which I didn't have a date. Now what should I establish as a "goal"? I had the spelling lesson, a worksheet, and the Weekly Reader this afternoon. Today seemed to go very well. Maybe I'll make a teacher! In introduction to philosophical thinking I more or less committed myself as being a "Sophist" - whatever the outcome of that may be!
