We Elected Three New Members to Stephens - Thursday, January 7, 1965

We voted on new Stephens members tonight. They are Carol Dotts, Chris Hayward and Mary Sue Somerville. While Rosemary and I counted ballots, the rest of the girls planned the Stephens booth for the SUDC [Student Union Development Committee] carnival. It sounds cute - something to do with telegrams. Our senior seminar in education met this afternoon. We finally decided the only time that would suit the most people is Monday at 4:00, so I'll have to change the time Holly comes. We're going to discuss tests and measurements and comparative education.

Courses Sound Demanding and Challenging - Wednesday, January 6, 1965

My classes sound demanding and challenging. Everyone is talking about their courses going to be that way. To get an A in social psychology we have to get an A on the first test and then apply for an A by doing a library research project. Dr. Pai had us define philosophy, science and religion in philosophy of education. My intro to philosophy course will be such a help for this course. I had a Dean Miller and house council day, but I think we have everything ironed out. The LLCs had a meeting and party. I talked with Mrs. Hufford about Holly.

Education Department Men Have Me Working Again - Tuesday, January 5, 1965

A little after 9:00 I went to Mackay on my way down to Alumni and ran into Dr. Pai. He took me down in his car, and I got right to work. I typed dittos for him and Mr. Carey. Dependent Mr. Chronister is having me index his phone list. I can see that it will be a "three ring circus" now. Dr. Pai arranged with Dr. Hamilton and Mr. O'Brien for me to compile freshman seminar grades and semester averages for a study he wants to do. We had developmental psychology. I read that tonight.

Helped Mr. Wetherill with College Bowl Preparations - Monday, January 4, 1965

This was my last time through a registration line at Park College. I decided to take The Family instead of Tests and Measurements. I saw Dr. Pai long enough for him to sign for Mr. Carey for the change. I didn't go down to see if they wanted me to work. I had been looking for Dr. Pai's car, but apparently he was there anyway. At least Evelyn saw his door open. At 3:00 I went over to help Mr. Wetherill with some College Bowl things. They called the dorms for volunteers. The student council met tonight, but there wasn't a quorum.

Evelyn and Jim were There to Meet my Train - Sunday, January 3, 1965

I went from my "home schedule" back to my "college schedule" with the greatest of ease. About ten of us in Stephens are back - as if we never left. We took Sharon with us to Fairfield this afternoon. Phyllis and her train left at 4:25 after "hundreds" of Parsons College kids had gotten off. Parcells came past while we were waiting in the car and we talked to Peggy and Keith for a few minutes. My train (6:45) was only fifteen minutes late. Evelyn and Jim had come to meet me when I got in at 10:00.

Finally Made the Dean's List at Park College - Saturday, January 2, 1965

I finally made the Dean's List at Park! After waiting out the suspense all vacation, I had all but given up hope of my grades coming today, but they did. In student teaching I got an A- and A in philosophy of education, A- in art for elementary teachers, and B+ in music for elementary teachers. Those were the grades I thought I deserved, but I just couldn't be sure. We went out to Grandma's for supper tonight. This afternoon Mom and I drove to Iowa City (while the girls and Daddy rode horses) to see if we could find some books from Phyl's textbook list, but the bookstores were closed for inventory.

Saw Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl Parades and Games - Friday, January 1, 1965

We had a quiet New Year's Day watching the Cotton Bowl and Rose Bowl parades and games. Michigan beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl, and Arkansas beat Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl. It's been so long since I've seen a football game, I really enjoyed it. I still like soccer though. Tonight Cuddebacks had us there for supper. I visited with Mom and Marion while "the kids played" upstairs. This was a rainy, gray and foggy day. If it were to be any indication of the year ahead, it would be rather dismal!
