Went to Swimming Party and Picnic for Rita's Birthday - Monday, June 28, 1965

Sandy Odo invited Tex and me along with some other students to her home on Lake Waukomis for a swimming party and picnic in honor of Rita Fox's birthday. I didn't want to get my white swimsuit dirty in the lake water, so Tex and I didn't swim. We went for a ride in their canoe. I was still scared to feel it tip, after our upset in the Missouri River that time. This afternoon I typed the kids' remedial reading poems on duplicator masters and ran them off. I went back to Chinn School to get the scoring masks we forgot on Friday. I met Mrs. Gibson in Mackay, then went to the library and read a Commentary article on reading to which she referred me.

Went to See what First Presbyterian Church is Like - Sunday, June 27, 1965

This morning Tex went with me to see what the First Presbyterian Church in North Kansas City is like. I really do like it a lot and will plan to go there. It's within walking distance of the house I'll be living in. It is a fairly new building and according to a descriptive pamphlet, much thought was given to the design. This evening Tex and I went to the Ramsey's picnic for students on campus. Lanie, Mary Jo and I got a long way toward learning how to play bridge tonight with the help of Tex, Scott and Ed.

Ate at the Four Winds Restaurant at the Airport - Saturday, June 26, 1965

Tonight Tex took me to the Four Winds restaurant at the airport. It is really a fabulous place. I had bought a new dress this afternoon in Macy's at Antioch (dark magenta with a white lace collar) and it really went well with the decor and atmosphere. The steak was delicious. It cost Tex over $10 (I have the receipt as a souvenir). Afterwards we went to the Plaza and went window shopping. The Plaza III was too crowded. We ran into Mr. Colliver and Sara and Benton and his date. We helped Linda move into her Parkville apartment this afternoon. I took Julia and Yoko with me to shop at Antioch.

Went to Stadium, but Game was Played in Cleveland - Friday, June 25, 1965

Tex and I were going to go to a baseball game tonight, but when we got to the stadium there was not a sign of activity. Apparently the game was being played in Cleveland. We went to the show, "The Yellow Rolls Royce", instead. It has good ratings, but we didn't care that much for it. It has beautiful scenery and interior scenes. We stopped at the Hotel Muehlebach to check on the Cleveland Indians - not there! - and went to the coffee shop. That is the hotel where the president of the United States stayed last night. I went out to Chinn School after reading class to get some more tests.  

Four of Us Saw Camelot at Starlight Theatre - Thursday, June 24, 1965

Tonight Tex and I went with a group to Starlight Theatre in Swope Park to see Camelot. It was very colorful and quite a good performance. That's the theatre that was vacant and Nancy Ayres and I made ourselves at home in when the LLCs went to Swope Park. I've always wanted to see a performance at Starlight. Linda Cleveland and Diana Welch went with us. We stopped at the Plaza III but this time they wouldn't serve us - we didn't have proper IDs. I'd not taken my driver's license since Tex was driving. I finally got caught up on remedial reading evaluations this afternoon.

Gave Mr. Clark a $10 Down Payment for a Place to Live - Wednesday, June 23, 1965

This afternoon I went to North Kansas City. I stopped at the State Bank to ask about opening an account, stopped to see Mr. Clark, the owner of the house, at his insurance office and made a $10 down payment, and got my refund back at the Dispatch office for my "apartment wanted" ad that I wanted cancelled. I looked for a new dress but didn't find anything I liked. I ran ino Dee at a dress rack in Penneys. She was looking for a going-away suit. Tex and I and some of the girls worked a picture puzzle and played gin rummy this evening.

Have Found a Furnished House to Share Next Year - Tuesday, June 22, 1965

I think I'm all set up for a place to live next year and it should be a really nice arrangement. The young teachers renting a furnished home that the North Kansas City School District secretary referred me to in NKC are really nice. All majored in education. Eileen Painter teaches business courses and Barbara Thomas works at an accounting office. Ronilue and Priscella will be getting married and going to grad school respectively, so they'll need two more of us to help share their $60-a-month-each rent. I spent the afternoon hunting for North Charlotte - it's great to have found such a "pot of gold" at 816 East 23rd Avenue. Tex helped me make word cards tonight. I "made a buck" taking Larry McDowell to Kansas City, Kansas to get his car. I let him drive mine over.
