Wayne and Flo Will Be LLC King and Queen - Friday, February 21, 1964

I just finished counting the LLC ballots and found that Wayne will be this year's Lowell king. Since Wayne got the ballots mixed up and I have temporary possession of the queen ballots, I counted them since I'm both Lucerne president and last year's queen. I'm glad Flo will be this year's queen. I finally got up enough nerve to get a heart-to-heart talk started with Fred. At least he knows more about how I feel about things now. I feel a lot better, too. He told me that his father died when he was five and he came to resent his mother's and sister's relationship. Park won a really good basketball game by one point at the last minute over Evangel.

LLCs Are Planning a Scavenger Hunt - Thursday, February 20, 1964

This just wasn't my day. To begin with, Fred overslept and didn't come to get me for breakfast. Consequently, working an algebra extra credit problem, I went without breakfast. I went down to Parkville this afternoon to Ann's Beauty Salon to have her cut my hair. She about got it too short. We had an LLC meeting tonight. We plan to have a scavenger hunt a week from Saturday night. This evening I kept both of us from getting our homework done by going over some of my problems with Evelyn. She told me some of hers, too. I've about decided I'm tired of Fred.

Am a Basketball All-Star - Wednesday, February 19, 1964

Today I got a note in my box about a picture of basketball all-stars being taken tonight. That's the first I knew about being an all-star. They had to re-schedule the pictures since not enough showed up. Evelyn is babysitting for Griswolds and is going to stay all night. Fred's ACC number 1 team lost a heartbreaking one-pointer to the ACC number 2 team tonight. I still think Fred is self-centered. I may be, too, but at least I'm conscious of the fact and can remember to include the other person, too. He doesn't act aware of the fact. Fred can be nice, too, but so much of the time he just thinks about his own interests.

Toured KU Med Center Rehabilitation Unit - Tuesday, February 18, 1964

Evelyn, Carolyn, Sandy, Beth, Sue Birrell, Mrs. Allen, Mr. Carey and I went to the KU Med Center this afternoon to tour the rehabilitation unit. It was a very educational and worthwhile afternoon. I went to the student council meeting tonight but they didn't discuss the ICC's part in Hell Week as Flo said at our 5:00 ICC meeting that they would. I didn't get finished with the algebra test, but lots of other kids didn't either. Fred went to Commons while I was at the ICC meeting and I didn't even see him until after I'd already sat down at another table. And I can no longer use the excuse of poor eyesight!

Wanting to Keep a B Average in Algebra - Monday, February 17, 1964

I went to the algebra review session tonight and we worked problems for an hour and a half. Now I feel as if I've had enough algebra but I guess I had better study it a little more before our test tomorrow. I have a B average so far. I went up to the health center this afternoon and got the monthly reports and typed them up. We didn't have a children's lit test today or last Friday since the Gehrenbecks' baby is sick. The fact that I didn't have my anthology reviews finished made me in not too good a mood before arithmetic class, but I changed immeasurably when Mr. Carey said we wouldn't have children's lit.

Experiences as Foreign Students - Sunday, February 16, 1964

I went to the Sunday Evening Forum tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 in the Meetin' House. They have been having them all trimester and I finally got to one. Karanja and Blanca told about experiences as foreign students at Park College. Fred went to the movie, "Veridiana," at 7:00 so didn't come up tonight. We didn't see much of each other today except in church, then had to rush through dinner since the LLC picture was being taken at 12:40. Evelyn and I went to Alix Broughton's organ recital this afternoon. I hope I did algebra the right way. I have to finish arithmetic, review two story anthologies, etc., so I suppose I'll get up at 6:00.

Lavender Flowers From Fred - Saturday, February 15, 1964

It snowed today - a real pretty wet snow. I took a picture of Cheryl and Frank making a snow sculpture in front of Stephens. I guess Fred and I will have to make a snowman. He said once he never had made one. He brought me three lavender carnations and some other lavender heather-like flowering plant - my valentine, I guess. It makes a pretty bouquet. He went with Chuck to deliver some flowers for Mrs. Lemmon. Evelyn and I went to the library this afternoon. I took Shirley's phone duty in Herr House this morning while she took her Graduate Record Examination. Fred had a bad headache and felt sick tonight so he went back to the dorm even before I was finished with supper. I've been doing algebra.
